We seek a seasoned Director of Business Development to fill a newly created role at our West Loop Chicago headquarters. This position will partner with our Founder + CEO, Scott Wilson, our VP of design, our CFO and other key team members to find and close opportunities and grow our agency roster. This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits and commission potential. 10+ years of experience working in the marketing or business development area across a variety of manufacturing, design or agency sectors, including industrial design, engineering, interior design, architecture is highly preferred.

What you’ll do

  • Take the lead in vetting and nurturing leads, meeting with C-suite level decision makers.

  • Own the proposal and capabilities deck creation process, creating and formatting decks with creative lead input, to enable MINIMAL to reach a faster response rate to close business.

  • Develop plans or strategies to get in front of the right prospects.

Qualifications

  • Must have proven success finding and securing client relationships for a marketing, advertising, branding or design agency.

  • Must have a solid and current understanding of marketing strategies and tactics used by professional services firms.

  • Must be comfortable and proficient in leading RFP initiatives.

  • Must have experience working with CRM and/or marketing automation systems.

  • Must enjoy and be skilled at coaching team members who participate in the business development process.

  • Must enjoy networking and have a knack for building relationships.

  • Must have great people and communication skills, written (correspondence, proposals) and verbal (listening, conversations, presentations, pitches).

  • Must be driven to identify and close new business and meet or exceed revenue goals.

  • Must be adept at identifying trends and customer needs to help MINIMAL grow and evolve to continue delivering relevant and competitive offerings.

  • Must be able to be hands-on with capabilities/sales presentation materials and serve as a leader in a deeply collaborative environment.

What you need

  • 10+years of experience in a similar position

  • Knowledge and experience in operations of an industrial design firm, architecture firm or studio

  • Proficient in Keynote and working knowledge of Adobe InDesign (or willingness to learn)

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
